Why am I telling you about jobs that have closed?

We’ve reviewed hundreds of applications this year - and whether it’s someone’s first gig or their fifth senior role, here’s what stands out:

✨ Sure, use AI to kickstart your cover letter - just don’t let it do all the talking.

Ground your claims in real examples. Use metrics, stories, or results to help the employer see your impact. Metrics in the millions aren't the point - but numbers are a great way to bring your wo to life and help your application stand out. I am far from the first to write about this but so many applications don’t go this far.

Want a snapshot of what this looks like?

“I’m a strong communicator and work well in fast-paced environments.” It’s a sentence that might address the criteria, but without any more info, is just a claim.

Here’s what you can do next:

Enter the example: When I worked at ‘blah org’ I did ‘this very specific thing’.

Then: For example, when 'x' happened, we needed to do 'y'. I 'action/what you produced' and the result (how it contributed to your personal work goal, and the overall team).

Push this far and it will help you stand out. Simple.
