The 2026–27 Federal Budget landed this week. Budgets are nuanced beasts, so instead of pretending I’m suddenly Treasury-adjacent, I’ve been following the people and organisations I trust to unpack it properly including ACOSS, Social Enterprise Australia, Heidi from Beyond Zero Emissions and Loki from Performl.

At the same time, Women Deliver 2026 was unfolding globally and I had full FOMO watching from home, participating instead in a much smaller but no less relentless summit involving a newborn, three-hour negotiation cycles, and very little bipartisan support for sleep 🍼 and one topic of convo - shifting wealth towards giving.

ICYMI - an estimated $5.4 trillion is set to be passed from baby boomers to younger Australians in the coming years. One comment from Minderoo Foundation’s CEO summed it up well (check this piece in Women’s Agenda): meaningful progress doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens when the right people are in the room with the collective will to act.

Because the truth is: government policy is an important structural enabler, but collective action is where we hold real power.

We spend roughly a third of our lives at work. Aligning that time to the change we want to see - through how we build, lead, fund, advocate and contribute - can create the momentum that helps push policy in the right direction too.
